Immigration & Refugees
Our Jewish values compel us to welcome the stranger, for once we were strangers. NCJW is fighting for pro-immigrant and pro-refugee policies that ensure that our country continues to be a welcoming place.
Enormous challenges are posed by our nation’s broken immigration system. More than 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the shadows of our communities across the country. Families face decades-long backlogs acquiring visas, workers are left without protection, children are left behind as parents are deported and LGBTQ Americans cannot sponsor the visa of a spouse.
We can no longer delay reform of our immigration system. It requires:
a pathway to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders
upholding the right to seek asylum
an end to immigrant detention
just and humane border security
We educate and inform our members and the community on these issues, as well as contribute financially and work with local organizations to provide direct service.
