Fourth Thursday of the Month Movie Night Discussion
The Women's Balcony
Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 7 pm, PST
PLEASE NOTE: Movie Discussions will resume the 4rd Thursday of January. We have cancelled the November and December "Fourth Thursday of the Month Movie Discussion Group" due to Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah holidays.
Our January 28, 2021 at 7 pm movie will be The Women’s Balcony (2016), an Orthodox community attempts to cope with a new rabbi who is more rigid than the community. When he demands changes, the women rebel. The resulting saga elicits laughter from the audience while, at the same time, raising the question of what constitutes faith. Directed by Emil Ben-Shimon. Written by Shlomit Nehama.
Among the performers, Evelin Hagoel stands out as a woman who easily refutes the younger rabbi's forced changes on her community. "The Women's Balcony" deals well with that age-old inner conflict among the religious - whatever the religion or denomination: the apparent sense of duty and obedience vs. what people know deep in their hearts to be true.
